Exciting developments in the chromatin world! Using state‑of‑the‑art cryo‑electron tomography stitched together with simulations and light microscopy, the team, lead by Rosana Collepardo-Guevara at University of Cambridge and Michael Rosen at UT Southwestern Medical Center, “opens up” chromatin condensates to reveal how individual nucleosomes and linker DNA pack into emergent droplet‑scale architecture. The key finding is a concrete structure–function link: by showing that linker length rewires nucleosome networks and thereby tunes condensate organization and material properties, they turn vague talk of “DNA droplets” into a quantitative, designable physical system that we can now interrogate, model and ultimately perturb in cells. If you want to see where high‑resolution structural biology and mesoscale condensate physics finally meet, this is absolutely an article you should read in full.
