Our paper elucidates for the first time the structure of protein complexes that are essential to initiate meiotic recombination, and reveals insights into their role in the assembly of DNA-dependent macromolecular condensates. Through a combination of AlphaFold modeling, structural biology approaches (biomolecular NMR spectroscopy) and biochemical characterizations, we describe the structure of yeast RMM proteins, reveal how they organize sites of break formation by DNA-dependent condensation, and show that their structure and molecular properties are widely conserved.
